Buying the Iowa Agent Without Buying the Legal Subscription

Iowa registered agent representation, billed at $99 per year. Includes the office address on your filings, same-day scanning of legal mail, and reminders for state deadlines.

One disclosure before anything else, because it bears on how you read the rest: this is IA Registered Agent.org's website and we sell Iowa registered agent service. Our opinions are interested ones. The Rocket Lawyer pricing we cite is public, was checked in July 2026, and belongs to them.

The Price Does Not Depend on Your Membership

Registered agent service from Rocket Lawyer costs $125 a year, and it costs $125 whether you are on a paid membership plan or not. There is no tier where the agent gets cheaper, and no opening rate that quietly turns into a bigger one twelve months later. In a category where the headline number and the eventual number are frequently different animals, that consistency is worth naming out loud, and we would rather compete against it honestly than pretend it is a trick.

You May Be Buying a Library You Never Open

The reservation we do have is about shape rather than honesty. Rocket Lawyer sells a broad legal product: templates you fill in, signatures you collect, lawyers you can put a question to, all wrapped in a subscription meant for regular use. The registered agent slot is one item on a much wider menu. If your company genuinely runs on that platform, drafting contracts and pulling templates most months, then $125 for the agent line inside a tool you already live in is easy to justify.

If what you actually need is an Iowa address that takes delivery of a lawsuit and someone who tells you the moment it lands, the platform is scenery. You are not being overcharged for the agent so much as being sold a larger product with the agent stapled to the front of it.

Our checkout contains a single item. There is no upgrade path, no compliance tier, and nothing to uncheck on your way to the payment screen. The $99 covers an Iowa street address to serve as your registered office, anything a process server hands us imaged and sent out before that day closes, a lasting archive of those files in your portal, and a warning ahead of each odd-year report window. The one additional charge we publish is $15 per item to scan general business mail, and it is optional.

For accuracy, since this page is built on price: the lowest sticker we have verified in this market belongs to BetterLegal at $90 a year. Our $99 places us in the bottom band of published Iowa rates, not at the very bottom of it, and it stays there at renewal.

The Iowa Handoff, Start to Finish

The document is Iowa's change statement, form 635_0119. One filing handles a new agent, a new registered office, or both together, and it is received by the Iowa Secretary of State at its Business Services Division. Post the paper version or send it through the Fast Track Filing portal. Either route costs a limited liability company nothing. Partnerships, filing the same sheet, pay $5.

Read the address block carefully, because it catches people. Iowa wants the registered office entry and the new agent's own business address to be one and the same street address. The registered office is not a mail drop you nominate; it is the agent's place of business, which is why the agent has to exist and have consented before the form can be completed truthfully.

That gives you the order. Appoint the replacement. File the statement naming them. Check the Secretary of State's business records a few days later to confirm the entry updated. Adjust or keep your Rocket Lawyer membership afterward as a completely separate decision, on your own timing, since nothing about the state filing depends on your subscription status. Handled that way there is no interval in which Iowa's record shows your company without an agent.

Notice what is absent from that sequence. No fee, so no receipt to keep, no refund window to watch, and no processing charge to reconcile against anyone's invoice. Iowa treats the change as an administrative event rather than a purchase, which is a genuinely unusual thing for a state to do and worth using while it is true. The step by step version lives on our change of agent page, and our service of process page explains what happens the day something arrives.
