Pricing a Bizee Alternative Once the Bundled Months Run Out
Iowa registered agent representation, billed at $99 per year. Includes the office address on your filings, same-day scanning of legal mail, and reminders for state deadlines.
Ground rules first: IA Registered Agent.org publishes this page and earns $99 a year from anyone it persuades. Read the argument with that in mind. The Bizee prices are lifted from Bizee's own published terms, not from our impressions of them.
The Free Window Is Not a Gimmick
Order an LLC formation package from Bizee and the agent role is thrown in free. How long depends on which package you picked: the shortest bundles carry three months, the longest carry twelve. We went looking for the catch and did not find one. There is no setup charge sitting underneath it and no clawback if you leave. For a brand new Iowa company counting every dollar in its first quarter, a legally required service arriving free is a straightforwardly good outcome, and turning it down would be silly.
Then the Number Is $149
When the bundled months end, standalone agent service from Bizee is $149 a year, and billing begins the day the free window closes. Bizee publishes that figure plainly, so nobody is being tricked. The awkwardness is structural rather than ethical: the price you agreed to and the price you eventually pay are separated by up to a year, and most people make the decision once, at the beginning, when the number in front of them is zero.
| Stage | Bizee | IA Registered Agent.org |
|---|---|---|
| Bundled with formation | Free, 3 to 12 months | $99 |
| Standalone, per year | $149 | $99 |
| Years two through five | $596 | $396 |
Who Iowa Lets You Hire Instead
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereThe eligibility bar here is low, which is why price ends up doing most of the deciding. Iowa Code § 489.115 says an LLC must designate and maintain a registered agent, that the agent may be an individual or a company, and that the agent needs a place of business in Iowa. The designation itself affirms the agent has consented to the role. Bizee clears that bar. So do we. So does every national brand you will read about this week, which means the interesting differences are the ones printed on the invoice.
Ours reads $99, once a year, unchanged at renewal. Service of process handed to us in Iowa is scanned and emailed the same business day it arrives. Our street address appears on your filings instead of your home address. Reminders go out ahead of the January to April window in odd-numbered years, which for Iowa LLCs means the next one opens in January 2027.
$149 is not an outrageous price and $99 is not a record. BetterLegal publishes $90 annually, so the lowest sticker in this market is not ours to claim. The claim we can support is a rate in the cheapest band available for Iowa that behaves the same way in year four as it does in year one.
The Switch, in One Sentence
Iowa's change of agent is a single form filed with the Secretary of State's Business Services Division at no charge to an LLC, and the only rule that really matters is order of operations: sign up your replacement before the form goes in, because the filing names an incoming agent rather than emptying the line. Our Iowa change of agent guide sets out the form, the two filing routes, and how to confirm the state processed it.
One practical consequence of a free filing: the end of your bundled months stops being a deadline you have to beat. There is no penalty for moving early and none for moving late, so the expiry date is not a trap to escape. It is simply the day a $149 charge starts, and you get to decide beforehand whether that is the number you want on your books.
